"In August 2023, I was at my desk at home when my vision went black I thought I went blind. I went to the hospital and they found a dissected artery, telling me that I had a transient ischemic attack. After that, I couldn't see well. I work from home in transitional care and am at the computer all day, and I had to hold one eye open with one hand and type with the other. There were days where I had to stop working because I couldn’t see, and I would crawl into my bed and cry. I was going in and out of hospitals for so long. Everything was a blob. I was having double, triple vision. I couldn’t move my fingers and toes, because they would just cramp up.

I'm the only one in my team who isn’t a doctor. In a meeting, one of my coworkers asked me who my doctor was. When she found out my doctor was independent, she said it was a problem that my current providers were not talking to each other and told me to go to Columbia where everyone is under one umbrella. That day, I started looking for a PCP, who sent me to my neurologist, who sent me to Dr. Sekula. The rest is history. Yesterday after surgery I could see again. Today I moved my fingers and toes for the first time again. It made me realize how we take things for granted."
